Description Unaugmented arms of Manners: Or, two bars azure a chief gules. An augmentation of honour was granted by King Henry VIII to Thomas Manners at the time of his creation as Earl of Rutland, in recognition of his descent in the maternal line from King Edward IV: A chief quarterly azure and gules the 1st and 4th quarters charged with two fleurs-de-lis or and the 2nd and 3rd a lion of England (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.656)
