  • Scope and content: Original caption: Maj. Gen. Charles H. Corlett, right, commanding the 19th Corps, awards Maj. Roy L. Atteberry of Corps G-3, the Silver Star at Boynton Manor Wilts, England, for gallantry in action against the Japanese in Kwajalein Island. Maj. Atteberry, under cover of riflemen, entered a bombproof shelter and found two natives and a Japanese soldier ready to throw a hand grenade. The Major disarmed the Japanese, thereby removing possible source of casualty other members of the attacking force. Maj. Atteberry is from Dallas, Texas. England 3 June 1944.
