Summary[edit]

Description
English: Minakshi Temple. Madurai, Tamil Nadu

Minakshi temple in Madurai is a large temple compound, like Ranganatha in Srirangam. In this rooftop view, surrounding gopuras watch over the temple's inner shrine, which is capped by a golden dome.

Measuring 254m by 238m, the temple was founded in Pandya times but completely rebuilt by the Nayakas. Most of the present structures date from the 17th - 18th centuries.
