Made Wiradana was born in Denpasar in 1968. He studied at High School for Fine Arts, Denpasar until 1990, and graduated from the Institute of Indonesian Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta in 1995. He received the "Best Sketch" and "Best Painting" prizes awarded by the Faculty of Fine Arts, ISI Yogyakarta.
On a visit to Leang-Leang in Sulawesi, Wiradana was greatly inspired by the prehistoric cave paintings. He believes that the pass will always affect human culture and consciousness whether scientifically, mystically, religiously or artistically. "Prehistory has a tremendous unseen power, as well as having its own particular beauty" says Wiradana. He often uses prehistoric images, 'cave-men', animals and traditional Balinese folk tales as his subject matter.
