Summary[edit]
DescriptionMacgillycuddy's Reeks, Corrán Tuathail (Carrauntoohil) - geograph.org.uk - 1434274.jpg |
English: Macgillycuddy's Reeks: Corrán Tuathail (Carrauntoohil) At 1,038 metres above sea level Carrauntoohil is the highest point in Ireland, surmounted by the famous cross. More recent photos show this to have been subsequently painted black, but in 1991 it was white and suffering a little from the elements. On the left is the triangulation pillar.
I have two abiding memories of that day, one of meeting a total stranger on the summit who lived less than 2 miles away from where I lived in England and sharing a noggin with him, and the other of seeing a lady at the summit wearing white stilettos... |
