Description
Deutsch: Die MS Georg Büchner war ein ehemaliges kombiniertes Frachter-Passagierschiff der VEB Deutsche Seerederei. Sie wurde zuletzt als Jugendherberge und Konferenzhotel genutzt und war bis 2013 am Rostocker Kabutzenhof festgemacht.
English: This ship was build in 1951, under the name of Charlesville for the fr:Compagnie Maritime Belge on the Congo - Belgium service. It was sold in 1967 to East-Germany. The ship could carry 9123 tdw of freight and host up to 248 passengers. The MS Georg Büchner was in service as a training ship for the East German shipping company en:Deutsche Seerederei. From the early 1990s until 2013 it served as hotelship belayed at Rostock in the city port. Despite its status of a historic site and efforts from enthusiasts to preserve it the Charlesville resp.Georg Buechner was sold for scrap. The unmanned ship sunk at 54-55,871'N 018-31,308'E while being towed to Lithuania.
