Description
English: Contrabass valve trombone (It. trombone basso Verdi) in 18′ B♭ built c. 1902-1918 in Milan, Italy by Romeo Orsi. In the collection of St Cecilia's Hall Concert Room & Music Museum, Musical Instruments Museums Edinburgh. Photographed by Antonia Reeve. Licensed CC-BY, attribution "University of Edinburgh"; accession number 6608. Brass with German silver ferrules, bow guard, stays, stay mounts, and valve components. Bell without gusset; wired bell rim. With angled connecting pieces between mouthpiece and body (secured by a ligature screw on the body) and between body and bell section (secured by ligature screws on the body and on the bell). With bow guard and water-key on the main tuning-slide. Valve type: 3 rotary valves, clock springs in narrow drums; cork buffers on spindles. Repair History: With detachable tuning-slide extension pieces adding 2× 98-196 mm to sounding length. One ligature screw and the 2nd and 3rd valve rotor shaft top screws are replacements.
