South Sudan, Juba, February 2014. IDP’s is South Sudan find a safe shelter at the UN compound in Juba, the UN House IDP Camp. Plaiting hair Name: Anna Nyanhial and Regina Nyalang Age: 26 and 28Location: UN HouseOrigin: Gudele Residence: Juba Oxfam Support: WaterContext: Ann’s eyes squint as she expertly draws a line on Regina Nyajangs head with her wooden comb. She then applies some hair on the scalp before separating the hair into three sections and plaiting it. Regina shows no signs of discomfort. She just smiles and her chosen style starts to take shape on her head. Her long dark hair looks like freshly harvested honey – rich and thick.Anne: ‘I’ve been here for two months. I came here with my family and there are seven of us in the tent. So far, life is not bad. There is water, food and charcoal. It could be worse. The only concern I have is diseases spreading to the children. The camp is not very clean. My hopes are for the conflict to end and for us to go home in peace - to get back to our lives.’Regina: ‘I hope to go home soon, in peace.
