Description

South Sudan, Juba, FEB 2014 At one of the compounds of the UN, UN house camp, thousands of IDP are hiding themselves for the ongoing unrest. Farah Karimi, OxfamNovib talked to the IDP's today. Meer dan 500.000 mensen zijn op de vlucht geslagen voor het geweld tussen militaire groepen in Zuid-Sudan. Oxfam Novib verleent noodhulp en roept de strijdende partijen op een eind te maken aan het geweld. Ondanks de toezegging van de regering van Zuid-Sudan tot een staakt-het-vuren gaan de gevechten door. Op dit moment zitten de partijen opnieuw rond de tafel om tot een echt vredesakkoord te komen. Hoewel het geweld de noodhulp bemoeilijkt, blijft Oxfam Novib in Zuid-Sudan. 20.000 vluchtelingen hebben al toegang tot veilig drinkwater en 250 sanitaire voorzieningen. Vanaf aanstaande zaterdag is algemeen directeur van Oxfam Novib, Farah Karimi, in Zuid Sudan en later in het Noorden van Uganda om te zien onder welke omstandigheden de vluchtelingen daar verblijven en welke hulp de komende weken en maanden nodig is. Er is grote zorg over het naderende regenseizoen. Op veel locaties waar de vluchtelingen nu verblijven zijn de hygiënische omstandigheden slecht. Bij regen kunnen gemakkelijk ziektes uitbreken en zich snel onder de bevolking verspreiden.
