| Description |
Messier 7 / M7 / NGC 6475 / The Ptolemy Cluster NGC 6453 M7 is a bright, loose open cluster in the constellation of Scorpius. It is about 980 light years away and it is estimated to be 200 million years old. From our perspective, M7 lies in front of the Galactic Center (the center of the Milky Way). As a result, the dense star field behind this cluster is the richest of all Messier objects and one of the richest in the entire night sky. NGC 6453 is a globular cluster about 38,000 light years away. It is heavily obscured by interstellar dust since it lies behind the Galactic Center.
