Es una banda de luz muy débil de forma parabólica muy cerrada o triangular, producto del reflejo de la luz solar en el polvo o partículas interplanetarias localizadas en el plano del Sol (eclíptica) o Zodíaco, de allí “zodiacal”. Se la comienza a ver antes del crepúsculo matutino o después del crepúsculo vespertino y siendo muy tenue su luminosidad, es observable en las noches claras sin Luna y sin “contaminación lumínica” (ciudadana). Se la confunde con un crepúsculo anticipado (antes del crepúsculo matutino, salida del Sol) o remanente (luego del crepúsculo vespertino, puesta del Sol). Su estructura es un disco en forma de lente con un radio de 600 millones de kilómetros con su centro en el Sol, llegando entonces hasta la órbita de Júpiter, siendo la parte central más densa del disco de polvo elíptico. |
