Summary

[edit]
Description I found this Fallout 4-like house while driving through Bloomington. This house is almost exactly like the one that the player character lives in at the beginning of the game Fallout 4, and similar homes can be found throughout the rest of the greater Boston area. This real life example has had the windows replaced, but the exterior is much the same as it was in the 1940s. These homes were built by the Lustron Corporation out of steel and enamel, and were built at a factory in Columbus, Ohio between 1947 and 1950. Used to house WWII veterans returning to the United States, these homes were low maintenance and easy to assemble, and helped address the housing shortage after the war. Bloomington has several of these houses, as the University attracted many returning veterans and the housing shortage in the city was worse than in many other locations as a result.
