Summary[edit]

Description
English: View of an attack of U.S. Army Air Forces aircraft on the Kronprinz-Wilhelm-Bridge at Urmitz, 14 February 1945. The bridge was attacked by 54 Martin B-26 Marauder of the 344th and 387th Bomb Group. The USAAF locates the bride at nearby Engers. Two bombs hit the bridge, two the northern siding and one hit a bridge tower with an anti-aricraft gun, killing ten soldiers. Eight aircraft were shot down with 24 crewmembers killed and 19 becoming prisoners. The bridge itself was blown up by German troops on 9 March 1945 while troops were still crossing it, with heavy loss of life. A new bridge was built in 1954.
North is on the right of the photo, with Urmitz being in the upper left and (Neuwied-)Engers being in the lower right.
