Summary[edit]

Description Although the original caption for this photograph states 1930, I think that this is pre WW1; but I need a bus expert to confirm this or not. A City of London Police Constable is directing traffic at Ludgate Hill junction with Ludgate Circus, probably the most photographed traffic point in London. The shadow of the railway bridge can be seen behind the officer, a bridge which is no longer there. I suppose the most iconic representation of this scene together with the railway bridge was Gustave Doré's etching showing an early Victorian steam train trundling across the bridge.
