Description Lot 9706-20: Life rings shown onboard USS Davis (DD 65). On May 12, 1918, she picked up 35 members of the German submarine U 103, which had been sunk by RMS Olympic. Note, U 103’s ring has been cut into a horse-shoe and faces “down” – meaning bad luck. (7/17/2015).
