Description Lot 11635-1: Allied Air Raids on Europe, WWII.The Avro-Lancaster, new addition to the Royal Air Force’s ever-growing fleet of giant four-engine bombers, has been in operational service for some time past, and was first mentioned officially as having taken part in the daylight raid on the Diesel engine works at Augsburg. For his part, Squadron Leader J.D. Nettleton was awarded the V.C. The Lancaster has been developed from the Avro-Manchester, the largest twin-engine bomber in service. Office of War Information.
