Summary[edit]

Description Lot-5279-26: Allied Air Raids in Europe, August 1944. Two B-25 Mitchells of Tactical Air Force come off their targets on an island off Marseilles, France, from which big German coastal guns were being used to shell Allied troops moving into the large city’s port area. Concussion from explosions caused by hitting an ammunition dump was felt by the Mitchell crews about one and one-half miles in the air. Tall columns of smoke may be seen rising from the gun emplacements. U.S. Army Photograph. (2015/10/30). Photographed through Mylar sleeve.
