English: Grave goods from Grave 13 at Hauskirchen, the "Princess' Grave"

The small Lombard grave field of Hauskirchen, already robbed during the Migration Era, comprised at least 20 burials. The complex of goods of Grave 13, the so-called "Princess' Grave", are counted among the most extraordinary finds of the European Migration Era. It contained the strongly plundered burial of a 25- to 30-year-old woman. Her body must have still been connected by sinews at the time of the robbery, since it was almost completely dragged into the robbery shaft. Only the skull was missing; it likely rolled away while the body was been dragged from its original position and then been shoveled out of the shaft. During this apparently hasty plundering, the grave robbers did not succeed in getting all the burial goods. In addition to a bead-edged basin from a Rhineland workshop, the harness trappings of two horses were found along with ring snaffles and rein-leading ring. The last allows no doubt that this was these were the trappings for draft horses of a wagon - noteworthy because only very few burials of women with an accompanying wagon are know from the early Middle Ages.

At the eastern end (foot end) of the shaft, two horses were deposited. The fittings of the harnesses of gilded bronze with niello decoration in chip carved technique are masterworks of Germanic goldsmithing. Entwined animal bodies, heads of birds of prey, cowering predatory animals, and human masks are among the decorative elements.

5. Four mountings of gilded silver with crescent-shaped pendants. Decoration in so-called Animal Style I (comparable with the harness fittings from Veszkeny).
6. Eight square fittings of gilded bronze. The narrow framing mold is decorated in niello, the somewhat lowered square field with chip-carved scenes in Animal Style I.
7. Eight hemispheric rein guides of gilded bronze. The rein guides are decorated in chip-carved technique and bear a red glass inlaid bead at the top.

Das kleine, bereits während der Völkerwanderungszeit beraubte langobardische Gräberfeld, bestand aus mindestens 20 Körperbestattungen. Das Grab 13 von Hauskirchen, das sogenannte "Fürstinnengrab", dessen Ausstattung zu den äußergewöhnlichsten Fundkomplexen der Völkerwanderungszeit in Europa zählt. Es barg die stark beraubte Bestattung einer 25- bis 30-jährigen Frau. Ihr Körper muss sich bei der Beraubung noch im Sehnenverband befunden haben, da er fast vollständig in den Raubschacht hinein gezerrt worden war. Nur der Schädel fehlte; er dürfte während des Wegzerrens der Leiche aus ihrer ursprünglichen Lage abgerollt und aus dem Schacht geschaufelt worden sein. Bei dieser vermutlich hastigen Plünderung gelang es den Grabräubern nicht, aller Beigaben der Bestattung habhaft zu werden. Neben einem Perlrandbecken aus einer rheinischen Werkstatt fanden sich noch die Schirrungen zweier Pferde sowie Ringtrensen und ein Zügelführungsring. Letzterer lässt keinen Zweifel daran, dass es sich um die Ausstattung für Zugpferde eines Wagens handeln muss - was deshalb interessant ist, da nur sehr wenige Bestattungen von Frauen mit beigegebenen Wagen aus dem Frühmittelalter bekannt sind.

Am Ostende (Fußende) des Schachtes waren zwei Pferde deponiert. Die Beschläge des Pferdegeschirrs aus vergoldeter Bronze mit Nielloverzierung in Kerbschnitttechnik sind Meisterwerke germanischer Goldschmiedekunst. Verschlungene Tierkörper, Raubvögelköpfe, kauernde Raubtiere und menschliche Masken zählen zu den Zierelementen.

5. Vier Beschläge aus vergoldetem Silber mit mondsichelförmigen Anhängern. Verzierung im sogenannten Tierstil I (vergleichbar mit den Pferdegeschirrbeschlägen aus Veszkeny).
6. Acht rechteckige Beschläge aus vergoldeter Bronze. Die schmale Umrahmungsleiste nielloverziert, das etwas vertiefte Rechteckfeld mit in Kerbschnitttechnik ausgeführten Szenen in Tierstil I.
7. Acht halbkugelige Riemenverteiler aus vergoldeter Bronze. Die Riemenverteiler sind in Kerbschnitttechnik verziert und tragen zuoberst eine rote Glaseinlage.
