Description
English: The Loma Fire in California ignited on September 26, 2016, and quickly spread to cover 2,250 acres. According to Cal Fire, as of September 30, the fire has burned 4,313 acres with 325 structures threatened. Eight single residences and nine outbuildings have been destroyed, with one additional residence damaged. One firefighter has been injured fighting the blaze. This fire is located 10 miles northwest of Morgan Hill in the Santa Cruz Mountain area.

This true-color satellite image was collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Terra satellite on September 28, 2016. Actively burning areas, detected by MODIS’s thermal bands, are outlined in red. Heavy plumes of thick gray smoke rise from the fire and blow to the south and southeast. Low clouds (fog) covers the California coastline.
