Description |
English: In 1915, Humboldt County, California, sent an exhibit to the Pan-Pacific Exposition housed in sections of a giant redwood log. After the fair was over, the buildings were moved to Venice, California and became the Big Tree Inn. In 1921, the inn was moved from California to a site near the Des Moines Highway, near Des Moines, Washington, where it served as a restaurant. The buildings were moved two miles to Highway 99 in 1938. It was later destroyed by fire.
This photo, probably taken in 1921, shows the lobby at the Big Tree Inn. Visitors waited here before being seated at a table in the restaurant, through the doorway at the right.
