Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Shows that repeated stimulation of giant squid axons increase the permeability of the squid axon surface to erythritol, mannitol and sucrose, which are all found only in the cell water, none adsorbed. Their increased entry during the passage of the action potentials is thus the likely consequence of the transient depolarization and liberation of the nano-protoplasmic water. In farther support of this belief, the increase of these non-electrolytes uptake will not take place in the absence of Na+ in the bathing solution.
