The spot where he rests is beautiful for situa-tion —the gentle eminence commanding the loveliestviews of peaceful, picturesque valleys, beyond which,like faithful sentinels, rise the everlasting hills. My pastor took me to his own home, and nevercould the loving-kindness and sympathy of truehearts be exceeded by that of himself, his family,and the good people of Lexington to me, in this hourof deepest affliction and bereavement. When thetime came for my sad departure from my once happy,married home, the noble people of Virginia extendedto me every kindness. I was provided with twoescorts to convey me to my fathers home in NorthCarolina; one of General Jacksons staff being de-tailed by the military authorities to attend me; andthe Virginia Military Institute, wishing to do honorto the name of its late professor, also sent one of hiscolleagues upon the same mission. 1 mention these
