Construction of a Liberty ship at Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyards Inc., Baltimore, Maryland (USA) in March/April 1943: The bottom shell plates are bolted, later to be riveted together. This was done ten hours after the laying of the keel plates. Original caption:” Bethlehem Fairfield shipyards, near Baltimore, Maryland. Constructing a Liberty ship. Ten hours after the laying of the first keelplate the bottom of the ship begins to form. Bottom shell plates are added which are bolted at first and will be riveted together.” |
