Original Caption: MAYOR HYLAN OF NEW YORK, HANGS FIRST OF 1,000,000 LIBERTY BELLS ON CITY HALL IN OPENING DRIVE OF THIRD WAR LOAN. One million Liberty Bells were hung on the doors of as many homes throughout the city Apr. 5, 1918 in the opening drive of the Third War Loan. the bells were distributed by members of the Police, the Police Reserves and patriotic citizens.
