Summary[edit]

Description Construction crews for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District dig two large spoils pits, shown Nov. 24, 2014, for use during American River levee improvement work near the Howe Avenue bridge in Sacramento, California. The pits are hold 'spoils' - excess cement, soil and water used by a specialized drill rig to construct seepage walls. Once dry, the spoils are excavated and removed.
