Summary[edit]
DescriptionLesser-Celandine Bulbils Close-Up1.jpg |
English: Bulbils are known to form in the leaf axils of two subspecies of lesser celandine,Ficaria verna ssp. verna (syn. F. verna ssp. bulbilifer) and F. verna ssp. ficariiformis, which are differentiated primarily by their size; as this can be greatly affected by the conditions under which they are growing it can be difficult to identify a single specimen with any certainty. As subspecies ficariiformis is primarily a plant of the central and western Mediterranean regions and this plant was photographed in woodland in Lincolnshire, UK, this is most probably Ficaria verna ssp. verna. (NB This plant was growing in deep shade, among Arum maculatum, and has been picked and moved to a lighter position for photography) |
