Summary[edit]

Description

Lepiota besseyi H.V. Sm. & N.S. Weber

Image location: Bosque Estatal de Piñones, Loiza, Puerto Rico, USA

This group of squamulose capped basidiomata with a distinct annulus were found in Bosque Estatal de Piñones (along Route 87 between San Juan and Loíza) growing from the seed “cones” and duff of the She-Oak Casuarina equisetifolia. This tree is native to Australia but is naturalized in Puerto Rico. No spore print was taken. The smooth and broadly ellipsoid spores are strongly dextrinoid in Melzer’s. 20 Spore average size was 10 × 7.4 microns with a Qm = 1.37. Clusters of cystidia are observed in a lamella crush mount. See photomicrographs.

Recognized by sight: Not yet transferred to Leucoagaricus
