English: Watercolor painting of the Old Gewandhaus with the music from Luigi Cherubini's “Ali Baba” (in Mendelssohn's hand) and handwritten dedication to the singer Henriette Grabau.
Deutsch: Aquarell vom Alten Gewandhaus mit den Noten der Introduktion aus der Oper „Ali-Baba“ von Luigi Cherubini und einer handschriftlichen Widmung Mendelssohns an die Sängerin Henriette Grabau, die in seinen Konzerten mitwirkte und an dem von ihm geleiteten Leipziger Konservatorium unterrichtete.
Mendelssohn hat in seinem Aquarell den Bibliotheksflügel des Gewandhauses dargestellt (Ansicht vom Neumarkt aus), vom Konzertsaal in der Universitätsstraße sieht man nur ein zwei Fenster breites Stück der Hofansicht (rechtes Gebäude hinter dem Torbogen)
