Summary
[edit]DescriptionLeadPlomb bille oxyde doigt.jpg |
English: Lead is a particularly soft metal (same as is the case here when it is hardened by adding arsenic or antimony). It is easily eroded and oxidized, and it becomes more toxic and contaminant in acid environment. This explains why in the gizzard of birds, ground between stones ingested by the bird in the gizzard, the lead shot ingested by birds are rapidly eroded. The lead can then pass into the blood and poison the body. 12 lead pellets hunting cartridge ingested enough to fatally poison a swan adult bird (by "avian lead poisoning").
