Title
Français : Le César de 1815
Description
English:

Cartoon shows Napoleon I, with winged shoes, running away from a battlefield on which there are several dead French soldiers; he carries a standard with a dead eagle hanging from the top. As he flees he looks back over his shoulder at an angle blowing a trumpet and carrying a banner listing other battles from which he has escaped.

Many caricatures expressed the idea that Napoleon fled whenever his armies were close to defeat, saving himself while he left his soldiers to die. Because Napoleon's reputation rested on his courage and military prowess, it was important for Royalist caricaturist to debunk the myth of his bravery.

  • Its author (or the last of its authors in the case of a collaboration work) died more than 70 years ago (CPI art. L123-1) and did not benefit from any copyright extension (CPI art. L123-8, L123-9 and L123-10)[1];

  2. The collective work status is quite restrictive, please make sure that it is actually established.
