Summary[edit]
DescriptionLate lunch at Hiroshima station- the Japanese love their curry! (49495681152).jpg | Back at Hiroshima station, this was my rather late lunch of curry with rice (and a beer of course). The food was piping hot and delicious. The Japanese seem to love Indian food and all the Indian restaurants I had seen in Tokyo filled up pretty quickly- with Japanese clientele. But Indian restaurants aside, the Japanese seem to love 'curry' on the whole and I saw scores of curry restaurants all over Tokyo, Osaka, and now here in Hiroshima. I also ate a curry meal in Nara the following day- we will get there later in the Nara album. I found however that whether it is Osaka, or Tokyo or Hiroshima or Nara, the curry taste is the same- it does not quite taste like an Indian curry. The taste is more like the curry flavour you get in noodles flavouring packs. So I guess they must be sautee-ing up the food with one uniform ready mix curry powder. Still, I could not complain here- it was past 17:00, I was tired, and hungry and a piping hot meal of rice and vegetables- and curry- was exactly what the doctor ordered! So itadakimasu! (that's what the Japanese say before every meal- itadakimasu literally means 'I humbly receive', but it is more colloquially used for bon appetit or let's eat!) (Hiroshima,Japan, Apr/ May 2019) |
