Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The indigenous peoples of Taiwan refer to the earliest inhabitants of the island with rich cultural heritage, languages, and traditions. They include, among others, the Amis, Atayal, Paiwan, Rukai, Bunun, Saisiyat, Tsou, Yami, Thao, and Kavalan peoples, as well as a few Plains Indigenous groups.

Each indigenous group has its own unique language, religious beliefs, traditional arts, music, and dances. Their traditional way of life and economy primarily revolve around agriculture, fishing, hunting, and gathering, deeply rooted in their spiritual connections to the natural environment.

With the passage of time and modernization, Taiwan's indigenous peoples face various challenges, including cultural preservation, language protection, land rights, education, employment, and social development. However, they continue to strive to preserve and develop their cultural identity while engaging in dialogue and cooperation with mainstream society to promote cultural diversity and inclusion.
