Laeken Cemetery - Crypte van Laken - Brussels

Death calm - graves in the crypt, hundreds m of corridors beneath the cemetery of Laeken, Brussels - my favorite place of silence

(crypte van Laken - één van mijn favoriete stiltegebieden - honderden meters gangen met graven, luguber en in verval door waterinsijpeling... begonnen rond 1870 door Emile Bockstael, schepen van openbare werken en ingenieur, die er zijn graf heeft met zowel een ondergronds als bovengronds gedeelte, heeft men hier tot in de jaren 1930 mensen begraven of gestockeerd - vroeger druk bezocht en bezaaid met bloemen, nu een zeer eenzame, afgesloten plaats.
