Le théâtre des Champs Elysées a été construit en 1913 dans le style mixte art déco et classique. L'architecte initialement choisi était Henry Van de Velde (1863-1957, un des fondateurs de l'art nouveau) : ayant fait appel à l'entreprise Perret pour l'ossature en béton, il fut finalement évincé du projet. Associé à ses frères Gustave et Claude, Auguste Perret est l'un des premiers entrepreneurs à employer le béton armé dans la construction (divers extraits de wikipedia) La façade est recouverte de marbre blanc. Il y a intégré des bas-reliefs (méthopes) d'Antoine Bourdelle (sur la photo : Apollon, entouré des 9 muses, voir "la danse" sur une autre partie de la façade inspirée par Isadora Duncan) et fait appel aux meilleurs artistes de son époque pour la décoration intérieure. Le théâtre a été inauguré le 2 avril 1913. Le 29 mai 1913, a eu lieu la première représentation (très contre-versée) du Sacre du Printemps d'Igor Stravinski. Autre représentation marquante : la revue nègre avec Joséphine Baker donnée le 2 octobre 1925. |
