Description

La cathédrale ou Nouvelle-Major

Cette église domine l'entrée du port moderne de Marseille. Elle est proche du MuCEM. Les travaux ont débuté en 1852. Elle a été conçue par l'architecte Esperandieu, qui est également l'auteur de Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde. L'architecte a retenu un style d'inspiration byzantine, tout en y intégrant des éléments romans et gothiques, il recherchait un style nouveau caractéristique, selon lui, du sud de la France.

Sous les voutes de la plateforme de la cathédrale, un centre commercial a été créé.
