Le famiglie di maggior pietà e di costumi più severivolevano anche in siffatte opere vedere esaltati i fasti della re-ligione. Molti poi erano affatto indifferenti alla scelta del sog-getto, bastando loro eh esso si prestasse a un grande sfoggio dicostumi, di colori, di dorature. Si decoravano a storie i mobili più diversi : molto di frequentei forzieri, i forzerini, le scatole, i deschi da parto e le tafferie;meno, le spalliere e le cornici; letti, lettucci e cassoni, assai dirado, come risulta dai nostri inventari, e contrariamente aquanto lascia intendere il Vasari nella vita di Dello. 296 CAPITOLO V grave errore facendo un mobile solo, chegli chiama cassone, didue mobili nel Quattrocento molto bene distinti : il cassone edil forziere. E sullerrore in cui il Vasari è caduto tanto piliimporta insistere, in quanto che sulla fede delle sue paroletutti seguitarono e seguitano a dare il nome di cassone al for-ziere per nozze. Tratteremo di ciò ampiamente a suo luogo;ho creduto intanto opportuno avvertirne fin dora il lettore ascanso di possibili malintesi.
