Portrait de femme, dit de la Belle Ferronnière. Musée Carnavalet, Histoire de Paris

Inscription concernant le titre - Au recto en haut, inscription coupée : "[...]A LA BELLE FERRONNIERRE DE PA[...]". Inscription concernant le modèle - Au revers, sur le panneau : "La Belle ferronniere une / Des maitresse [sic] De françois / Premier par [mot illisible] / 1539". Etiquette manuscrite - Au revers du panneau : "Ce portrait probablement imaginaire / provient sans doute d'une de / ces décorations peintes fort en vogue / au XVIe siècle où la fantaisie / d'un galant seigneur réunissait / les images des belles galantes / des temps passés et même du / temps présent ; Phryné et Cléopâtre / y coudoyaient les effigies d'Agnès / Sorel, de Marie Touchet, de la / Belle Ferronnière, voire même de / Mesdames d'Etampes ou de Valentinois / et des maitresses personnelles / du maître de céans. C'était la / Galerie des femmes faibles, en opposi- / tion à la Galerie des femmes fortes / dont les respectables matrones / ornaient volontiers leurs oratoires. / L'inscription, bien que mutilée / est incontestable : LA FERRONNIE- / RRE DE (PA(?) et la peinture, à l'etat / d'esquisse largement brossée a / bien les caractères de l'école de Clouet. / (Acquis en 1892)".
