Summary[edit]

Description LC-USZ62-54654: Confederate Navy screw steamer, CSS Rappahannock, lying at Calais, France. In November 1863, Rappahannock became a Confederate Navy ship, but a machinery breakdown pulled her into Calais, where she was detained by the French Government for the rest of the Civil War. At the end of the Civil War, she was turned over to the United States Government. Engraving from Harper’s Weekly, 1864. (5/29/2015).
