Description LC-DIG-DET-4a13938: US Navy Passaic class monitor, USS Nahant, sailors and ship mascots (cats), 1898. During the time of this photograph, she was placed back in commission and performed coastal defense duties in New York Harbor, returning to Philadelphia for lay up after the brief war. Photographed by Edward H. Hart, published by Detroit Publishing Company. (5/29/2015).
