Särdeles lyckade äro de gamla klubbherrar, som diskuterai dansösens loge. Med det idiotiska gnäggande aristokratskratt,som är modernt öfver hela världen, åhöra de, man kan säga ådragande kall och ämbetets vägnar — ty det är chic för gamlafranska herrar att göra sig till för dansöserna — den oförskämdalilla damens inlägg: »Och du, baron, duar du din fru?» — »Ja,ibland — dä hennes älskare hör det» (bild 295). Kvinnodyrkan får i Paris nästan något af plikt, hvilket ejutesluter att kvinnan också har uppriktiga tillbedjare. Ur ett afde vackraste af Forains album, >:La vie», där bilderna äro färg- 378 MONTiMARTRESKOLAN.

Damen, som justsätter litet rödt pä läpparna, ser ut att vara ett ovanligt fuU-fjadradt stycke, hvilket ej hindrar att mannen är hjälplöst för-älskad. Den intima gest, med hvilken han smyger sig mothenne, ar aflockad verkligheten. Man känner nästan medömkan 379 FRANKRIKE. vid tanken pä hur hon skall komma att pläga honom. Kvinnlig-skönhet ligger i allmänhet ej för Forain. Ibland misslyckas hanalldeles, men undantagsvis kan han fä ett behag och en friskhet,som verka i högsta grad tilltalande. Hur i bästa mening im-pressionistisk är ej damen på bild 296 i sin förtjusande omed-vetna position — man lägge särskildt märke till fotställningen.Bilden kunde illustrera en lustig situation i Lanneau daméthysteaf Anatole France, då Mme de Gromance far i uppdrag attverka för Abbe Guitrels biskopsval. — Om man med efter-tanke bläddrar igenom de Forainska albumen, begriper manmy
