| Description |
English: The Kuwale people are livestock keepers that live in the uplands on the fringe of the desert, southwest of Angola.
The Kuwale woman presents a great variety of ornaments made with sheepskin in the head, in their accessory and for this group, hair-style is very important The coming-of-age festivity, justifies the introdution of the most extraordinary hair-styles, most of which are, themselves, conceived with a great deal of ritual, kept glossy by using butter and a mixture of red powder with oil or grease. That illustration (ceramic tip on skecthboard) represents a Kuwale woman with a traditional sheepskin head covering. The skins covering her hair are used only outside the Kimbo and shows a after puberty ritual hair-style, it even shows the tribe to which she belongs. The strings of beads and shells, also identify that she's single. |
