Kommentar: Korinth ist eine der wichtigsten Münzstätten im griechischen Mutterland. Wegen ihrer Bedeutung als Handelsstadt am Isthmos der peloponnesischen Halbinsel prägte Korinth bereits seit dem frühen 6. Jh. v. Chr. Münzen. Zunächst konzentrierten sich die Münzbilder auf Pegasos, welcher vom korinthischen Heros Bellerophon gezähmt wurde und mit dessen Hilfe er die Chimäre besiegte. Ab dem 4. Jh. v. Chr. ist auch die Kampfszene selbst auf den Münzen gezeigt. Ein archaisierendes Element der Münzgestaltung ist das Festhalten an dem Buchstaben Koppa als altem Anfangsbuchstaben der Münzstätte bis in das 3. Jh. hinein.
