Summary[edit]

Description
English: On the street to the south of the museum there is a lone grave in the pavement. It is that of Aşık Şem'i. He served as the first İhtisap Ağa (roughly "Lord Mayor" in Konya between 1830-1839. Şem'î is the most famous of the minstrels from Konya and was born in 1783. He was given to a halva maker at a young age. Later the Sultan Mahmut II entrusted the government of the city to him, in a position called İhtisap Ağa.
