Polski: Stary Sielec. stanowiący teren dzisiejszej parafii św. Barbary w Sosnowcu był już znany w połowie XIV wieku.
W 1363 r. Kazimierz Wielki przeniósł wieś z prawa polskiego na prawu niemieckie. W 1386 r. królowa Jadwiga potwierdziła sprzedaż Sielca Wisławowi i Piotrowiz Mysłowic. Pod względem kościelnym do czasu kongresu wiedeńskiego i jego decyzji politycznych należał do parafii Mysłowice. Po przeprowadzeniu podziału parafii Mysłowice ze względów politycznych z wiosek znajdujących się w Królestwie Polskim biskup krakowski Jan Paweł Woronicz utworzył parafię w Niwce 17.03.1826. W 1854 r. siedziba parafii .Niwka została przeniesiona do Zagórza. W następstwie tych decyzji Sielec także zmienił swoją przynależność parafialną. Z parafii Mysłowice przeszedł do parafii w Niwce. a w 1854 do Zagórza. Na skutek usilnych zabiegów, popartych faktem wybudowania świątyni, mieszkańców Sielca. administrator diecezji kieleckiej Ks. Franciszek Brudzyński erygował tutaj parafię 19.08.1908. wydzielając ją w całości z parafii Zagórze. Kościół parafialny murowany budowany w latach: 1906-1907 przez mieszkańców Starego Sielca. jeszcze przed erekcją parafii. Poświęcony 15.08.1907. Tytuł kościoła: św. Barbary PM; patronka parafii: Matka Boża Królowa Polski. |
