English: Shinto wedding in the Kiyomizu-dera temple in Kyoto. The temple was founded in the early Heian period in 778. It takes its name from the waterfall inside the complex, which flows over the nearby hills. Kiyomizu means clear water or pure water. The Japanese bride-to-be wears a white kimono and elaborate head covering and a white hood is attached to the kimono worn as a veil. The Japanese groom wears the traditional black kimono during the wedding ceremony.
