English: Signs in image include: Northern Pacific; St. Elmo Hotel; New England Hotel. Warner [3132] PH Coll 273.A37The two-floor, wood-frame Saint Elmo Hotel stood about one block west of the intersection of Commercial Street (later renamed 1st Avenue South) and South Main Street. In 1888, it was located near the corner of West Street and South Main. This small rectangular hotel had a one-floor porch extended off its south side into Main Street. On the first floor, a salon filled the hotel's southwest corner, and a stairway up to second floor occupied the middle of the plan. In 1888, the hotel stood very close by to a railroad station on West Street, convenient to tourists arriving in the city. This hotel burned in the Seattle Fire of 06/06/1889.
