Onthe 17th a tiger was seen swimming a river, and oneof the native magnates had a long but unsuccessfulshot at it. On the i8th a line of elephants morethan 600 yards long was formed, the Prince being inthe centre, and a tiger was roused up, which boundedacross in the direction of the Prince ; but some oneelse fired, and the beast turned before His RoyalHighness could get a chance at it. It charged theelephant, and soon rolled over, dead, a magnificentbeast 10 feet long and beautifully marked. Penetrating farther into the country the tentswere sent on to Bunbussa.
