Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Kerr Stuart 17" 0-6-0T No.3066 of 1917, one of 10 "Victory" Class shunters built in WWI under Government Order and the largest locos built by Kerr Stuart. They went to the Inland Waterways & Docks at Southampton where No.3066 was "Inland Waterways & Docks No.10". It then went to the Railway Operating Division as "RoD No.609". In 1919 4 were sold to various railways (1 to the East Kent Railway and eventually BR; 1 to the Brecon & Merthyr Railway and later the GWR who sold it in 1929 to the Ashington Coal Co; 2 to the Alexander Docks & Railway, becoming GWR and then BR locos [Class "3F"], who withdrew the last railway owned one in 1955). Six were sold to various collieries, No.3066 being "Powell Duffryn Steam Coal Co. No.18" and from 1947 "NCB No.18". It was the last NCB one withdrawn in 1969 at Aberaman Colliery, where this (scanned) photo was taken (by a Kowa SET) shortly after withdrawal. It was also the last of all the "Victory" Class to be withdrawn.
