Bahasa Indonesia: Kawasan dilindungi yang diresmikan sebagai taman nasional oleh pemerintah pada 1997 itu terletak di tengah-selatan Papua.
Taman nasional seluas 24.864 kilometer persegi itu dinobatkan menjadi salah satu Situs Warisan Dunia UNESCO pada 1999. Keistimewaannya terletak pada ekosistem di dalamnya yang beragam. Membentang dari puncak gunung salju hingga membujur ke pesisir pantai, Anda bisa menemukan rawa, hutan, hingga padang rumput. Dilansir dari laman Google Doodle, terdapat beberapa jenis hewan langka mendiami taman nasional ini, termasuk burung beo Pesquet. Burung langka itu memiliki kepala yang berwarna hitam polos sampai dada, dengan perut dan sayap yang berwarna merah untuk jantan dan pada betina tidak terdapat bintik merah di belakang matanya. Nama Lorentz diambil dari pengelana Belanda bernama Hendrikrus Albertus Lorentz yang berkunjung ke wilayah tersebut pada 1909. Selama di Papua, ia tiga kali menggelar ekspedisi, yaitu pada 1903, 1907, 1909-1910. Selain taman nasional, nama Lorentz juga disematkan kepada nama sungai atau yang juga dikenal dengan julukan Sungai Undir. Papua selalu mengejutkan masyarakat dengan kekayaan alam yang tersembunyi di hutannya. Taman Nasional Lorentz merupakan keterwakilan gradasi ekosistem dengan puncak tertinggi Cartenz dan salju abadinya. |
