| Description |
Deutsch: Am 10. November 1928 wurde in Crimmitschau das »Kaufhaus Schocken« eröffnet. Der Architekt Bernhard Sturtzkopf hat die von ihm am Bauhaus Dessau mitentwickelte moderne Formensprache als Neuheit nach Crimmitschau gebracht und damit die Erwartungen seines Auftraggebers erfüllt. Ab 1933 wurden in der Nazizeit alle Schockenkaufhäuser boykottiert. Simon Schocken versuchte vergeblich die Zerschlagung des Familienkonzerns aufzuhalten. Maßgeblich unter der Führung der »Deutschen Bank« wurde das Kaufhaus widerrechtlich weit unter ihrem Wert an die Bank zwangsverkauft und "arisiert". In einer "Merkur-AG" wurde der Verkauf weitergeführt bis zur Einrichtung von Unterkünften für Lehrlinge der Junkers-Werke im Jahr 1944. Am 30. Juni 1946 wurde die Merkur AG enteignet. Den Kaufhausbetrieb setzte nun die sächsische Konsum-Genossenschft fort und erweiterte das Gebäude. Nach der Wende 1990 erhielten die Schocken-Erben das enteignete Eigentum zurück. Das Kaufhaus wurde noch bis Oktober 1999 weitergeführt unf verfiel seitdem zusehends. Seit Frühjahr 2021 wird das Gebäude revitalisiert. Einziehen werden u.a. die Stadtbibliothek, Arztpraxen, Büroflächen und private Mieter. |
